Bikes Heal Makes Its First Bike Donation

There are moments that define a mission. For Bikes Heal, this was one of them.

We are incredibly proud to announce the very first bike donation through the Bikes Heal bike assistance program — a milestone that represents hope, healing, partnership, and the beginning of something much bigger than ourselves.

Our first recipient is a courageous six-year-old boy from Louisville, Kentucky who was diagnosed with leukemia at just three years old. After years of treatment, he recently completed his care at Norton Children’s Hospital and is finally getting the chance to return to what every child deserves most: simply being a kid again.

To help celebrate this moment, Bikes Heal partnered with N+1 Bikes in Louisville. Shop owners Shaun and Zack George generously donated a beautiful Specialized Riprock bike to help him regain strength, confidence, independence, and joy after cancer treatment.

This was amazing moment for everyone involved.

For this young survivor, the bike represents freedom and a return to childhood after years spent fighting cancer.

For N+1 Bikes, it reflects their continued commitment to supporting their local community and using cycling as a force for good.

And for Bikes Heal, it marks the first real step in fulfilling our mission to help cancer survivors reclaim their health and happiness through bikes.

After enduring multiple cancer diagnoses and treatments, Bikes Heal founder Brian Novak, discovered firsthand how transformative biking could be during recovery. Getting on the bike was one thing I could do to feel normal when everything felt out of control. It rebuilt my physical strength, improved my mental health, and helped me reconnect with life after cancer.

A bike became far more than exercise.

That experience inspired the creation of Bikes Heal — a nonprofit focused on helping cancer survivors experience the same freedom, confidence, and recovery that cycling gave me. Seeing this young boy smile while sitting on his new bike was a reminder of exactly why this mission matters.

This is only the beginning.

Through partnerships like the one we’ve formed with N+1 Bikes, we hope to continue making meaningful impacts in the lives of cancer survivors and their families, one bike at a time.

Strength. Confidence. Joy.
